New Year, New Provocations

The New Year started off with continuing provocations by the Turkish Air Force. Within the first week of the year there have already been numerous airspace violations and two incidents of over flights of Greek islands. The Hellenic Air Force is under orders by today’s socialist government to not intercept the Turkish aircraft but only escort them on their sightseeing tour of the Greek islands.
The latest incident took place shortly before the Greek PM is to visit Turkey in what many fear will be a visit that will seal an agreement to share Greek resources in the Aegean Sea with Turkey.

  1. The Lausanne Treaty was signed on 24 July 1923 by the British Empire, France, Italy, Japan, and Greece on one part and Turkey on the other. These 'great powers' of a different era unwittingly granted Turkey a foothold on Europe(3% of its national territory). This has transformed Turkey into 'the mouse that roared' at the gates of EU.
