S-120 Papanikolis becomes NB-361

En Kripto reports that the name Papanikolis has been taken off the sub which is still awaiting its fate in the HDW shipyards in Kiel. As reported several times in this blog the standoff between Thyssen Krupp Marine Systems and the Greek government has not been solved yet but the Greek side has on several occasions made statements that the Papanikolis (the first of the 4 Type 214 subs) would not be accepted. This ongoing saga not only undermines Greece’s deterrent capability but continues the uncertainty of the future of Greek shipbuilding.
